Today Tracy Tate and I went to Island one and then before the sun went down
stopped at Lynnhaven inlet to look for all the Franklin Gulls being reported.
We didn't find any on Island 1 but 2 birds were in the massive gull flock at
Lynnhaven inlet on the flats . Unfortunately I decided to go to Lynnhaven so
late in day .
Most of the gulls were heading off the flats and out towards the bay when we
got there.
Thanks to Ned Brinkley early in the day for a heads up on this extraordinary
movement of Franklin's along the Eastern seaboard , I'm not sure of the number
of birds that were seen in Virginia or along eastern seaboard today , but
hearing from friends back in NY and looking on list serves tonight looks like
well over a 100 birds were reported. I'm not sure if this will be a one day
wonder or if more birds willing be passing by over the weekend so if you can
head out towards coast this weekend hopefully more will be found .
Both birds I saw today were first year .
Again thanks to Ned for early tip .
Cheers
Andrew
