The highlight of this morning's Reston Association/ASNV birdwalk through Fred
Crabtree Park was probably the sighting of a young raccoon, which watched us
from low in a tree no more than 25 yards for 10-15 minutes. We did see some
birds in this heavily wooded park, but they were few and largely expected:
DC Cormorants (2 flying overhead)
Mourning Dove
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker
Eastern Wood Pewee
Eastern Phoebe
Eastern Kingbird
Blue Jay
American Crow
Barn Swallow
Tufted Titmouse
Carolina Chickadee
White-breasted Nuthatch
Carolina Wren
American Robin
Gray Catbird
Chipping Sparrow (including many juveniles)
Northern Cardinal
House Finch
American Goldfinch
