VA-Birders,
Early this morning I scouted a few areas in my area of the Burke Lake sector of
the Ft Belvoir CBC, in preparation for tomorrow's count. I started at a few
spots for owls and only had a single Great Horned, and attempts for Woodcocks
unfortunately failed.
Daylight birding was conversely quite good, noting just under 50 species
between 5:30 and 9:30 AM. Highlights for this area include two American
Kestrels, a Kingfisher, both Kinglets, a Towhee, and a large number of Black
Vultures (55) roosting in some trees.
This sector and other areas of the count still need volunteer help, so please
let compiler Kurt Gaskill know you are willing to spend some time in the field.
If tomorrow is as birdy as today was, it should be a very fun day.
Take Care,
Jay Keller,
Arlington
