Subject: Huntley Meadows Monday Morning Birdwalk
7 Birders met for the final Monday Morning Bird walk of 2007 on a raw, cold,
foggy morning. We spotted 42 species, but were hampered by dense fog that
obscured our view of distant portions of the wetland. Our highlights today
included a Wilson's Snipe, both Red Shouldered and Red Tailed Hawks, and the
largest population of Canada Geese that anyone on the walk can remember at
Huntley Meadows. Of interest also was a 'flock' of Field Sparrows - six
individuals in a close grouping not usually seen in this species. The Friends
of Huntley Meadows, and the regular Monday Morning crew extend wishes for a
Happy New Year to all, with hopes of great birding for 2008.

The Monday Morning birdwalk has been a weekly event at Huntley Meadows since
1985. It takes place every week, rain or shine, at 7 AM, is free of charge,
requires no reservation, and is open to all. Now that we are in winter, be
advised that occasional icy conditions on the trail may cause cancellation of
the walk at the last moment. Birders meet in the parking lot at the Park's
entrance at 3701 Lockheed Blvd, Alexandria, VA. For questions call the Park
during normal business hours at (703) 768-2525.
