Subject: Monday's Birdwalk - March 12, 2007 - Dameron Marsh and Hughlett Point
Hi Virginia Birders,
Here is Monday, March 12th's birdwalk news of the Northern Neck Audubon
Club: We had 16 members and one visitor present. We found the following 29
Species:
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Red-winged Blackbird, Tundra Swan, (they may be
migrating very soon), Northern Cardinal. American Crow, Canada Goose, Osprey,
Bald Eagle, (a nice view of one sitting on a nest!), Red-bellied Woodpecker,
Common Loon, Song Sparrow, Red-breasted Merganser, Ring-billed Gull,
Pied-billed Grebe, Herring Gull, Dark-eyed Junco, Carolina Wren, Great Blue
Heron, Great Black-backed Gull, Goldeneye, Carolina Chickadee, Forster's Tern,
Turkey Vulture, American Kestral, Hairy Woodpecker, Kingfisher, Northern
Gannet, Black Scoter, and Killdeer.
It was a beautiful sunny day. A highlight was seeing 58 Red-breasted
Mergansers feeding near the shore. We had a long wonderful view of them. And
the Gannet were impressive too in Lance's scope :)!
There were about six Wilson's Snipe present in a puddle again in the farm
fields on the way into Dameron Marsh but unfortunately were very skittish and
took off right away before many members could view them. But once again, a
great time was had by all.
Happy Birding,
Maryalyce J. Johnsen
