The Northern Virginia Teen Bird Club had a field trip this past Saturday AM to
Burke Lake. Thanks to the sharp eyes and ears of Nick Newberry and new member
Jacob Barkett (who also dilgently recorded the list and posted it to eBird) we
found some interesting sightings including an osprey, 24 wood ducks, a green
heron, two pied-billed grebes, 30 tree swallows, single Cape May, Nashville,
and Black-throated Green Warblers, and several yellow-rumped warblers which
were eating poison ivy berries (as were blue jays, bluebirds, and a downy
woodpecker). See Jacob's complete list below.
Our next field trip will be in the afternoon on Sunday Nov 22. Please email me
if you are in grade 7-12 and are interested in attending that field trip (or
others in the future).
Good Birding!
