Rich Rieger and I spent a few hours at Possum Point this morning. There were
some very birdy pockets of activity but not overwhelmingly so. We had a
Great Horned Owl calling in very close proximity on Possum Point Road. 16
species of warbler were found, but a perhaps surprising miss was Yellow. FOS
singing Swainson's Thrush was a nice find. We were also completely skunked
on Gulls and Terns, plus only one Lesser Yellowlegs at the ash pond was our
only shorebird. There was a good showing and singing of both Oriole species.
Another highlight was a pair of Summer Tanagers in close proximity (photo
op.) doing a little courtship. When I got home I was treated to a singing
Black-throated Blue Warbler in my back yard (new for my yard), which posed
for a decent photo.
