The Northern Virginia Bird Club visited the Trillium Trail of Thompson
Wildlife Management Area in Fauquier County. The weather was more fitting
for March than May, and few migrants were about, but the local breeders put
on a good show. We saw/heard about a dozen cerulean warblers, some giving
excellent looks. We encountered 2 Kentucky warblers. One close the parking
lot gave good views to some of us. We also son LOTS of American redstarts.
They were by far the most common bird seen, and we were never out of earshot
of their calls and songs. Other highlights were 2 veery, a broad-winged
hawk, hooded warbler (great looks), and rose-breasted grosbeak. The
