Greetings,
Members of the Williamsburg Bird Club and the Hampton Roads Bird Club dodged
rain drops this morning at Newport News Park for the regular 3rd Saturday Field
Trip of the Williamsburg Bird Club. Our leader, Jane Frigo of the Hampton Roads
Bird Club, led about 20 of us around to the birdiest spots in the park. As the
rain increased, our birders headed for dryer, warmer habitats, like home!
We had 29 species at a park were twice as many species are often tallied.
The find of the day was a Barn Swallow flying over the reservoir with a
Northern Rough-winged Swallow and 6 Tree Swallows. By the time the swallows
appeared our group was down to the hard core half dozen who all saw the Barn
Swallow well.
The full list is below. By 10 am we were all wet and cold. As we drove out the
sun emerged!

PS: Group also had good looks at otters in the water near one of the picnic
areas.
