After dinner I heard a bird singing away as if there wasn't another
tomorrow so I went outside to take a look. At first I assumed a Mockingbird;
wrong. High in a tree sat a Brown Thrasher singing his/her heart out. My
immediate response was WHAT? I don't think I'd ever seen a thrasher more than a
couple feet off the ground, usually in a brushy environ thrashing about. As I
sat there, somewhat enthralled, I dialed up the Brown Thrasher songs on my
phone app and it was entirely the same tune. The bird flew over to check out
his/her competition but didn't linger. I next checked out the description and
it turns out that Brown Thrashers "have the largest repertoire of songs of all
the North American birds and are able to vocalize 3,000 distinct songs." Who
knew, not me1
