Greeting all
I hope that the administrator of the Carolina and Virginia Lists will allow me
to post this on the List
Even though itâs not about birds it is a very close connection because saving
Sea Turtles helps birds as well
Right now the STC is having a fund raiser with a matching fund offer
So if they raise $5,000 they will end of with $10,000
I hope that you can make a donation of any amount will be greatly appreciated.

May God Bless and Keep You

Dear STC Supporters,
Nesting season is in full swing in the Southeast US and at STC's project
sites in Panama and Tortuguero, Costa Rica! Here in Florida, leatherback
season is starting to wind down while loggerhead and green turtle nesting is
ramping up. The state has even had a few extremely rare Kemp's ridley nests!
As of May 22, the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge had 2,471 loggerhead
nests, 37 leatherback nests, 9 green turtle nests and 1 Kemp's ridley nest.

Meanwhile, in Panama, leatherback and hawksbill nesting is still going
strong! Our team based in Bocas del Toro reported the following nest numbers:
Chiriqui: 2603 leatherback, 87 hawksbill, 1 green
Soropta: 394 leatherback
Bluff: 84 leatherback, 15 hawksbill, 1 green
Playa Larga: 27 leatherback, 7 hawksbill
Playa Roja: 26 leatherback, 11 hawksbill
Drago: 18 leatherback, 5 hawksbill

Costa Ricaâs borders are closed to foreign visitors for the foreseeable
future, which means nearly all of STC's international Research Assistants,
who assist with carrying out our research and protection program, are unable
to get to Tortuguero. As a result, STCâs small crew of staff members in
Tortuguero have been thrust onto the front lines of wildlife protection,
performing tasks that once were carried out by a team of 25 people. Our staff
members are working overtime day and night to deter poachers from killing
turtles as they crawl ashore to nest, and we are doing our best to hide nests
in order to protect the eggs from being taken. STC staff recently reported 55
leatherback nests, 6 green nests and 7 hawksbill nests.
World Sea Turtle Day is June 16th, which is the birthday of STCâs Founder,
Dr. Archie Carr. This year for World Sea Turtle Day, our friends at gimMe
Snacks have pledged to MATCH your donations, up to $5,000, starting on June
1st! Every bit of the funding raised during our World Sea Turtle Day Campaign
will support our most urgent conservation programs, such as green turtle
monitoring in Tortuguero; leatherback and hawksbill monitoring and protection
in Panama; and our latest research project studying juvenile green turtles in
the Gulf of Mexico. Please consider donating on our website or Facebook
fundraiser to help turn $5,000 in to $10,000 for STCâs sea turtle research
and conservation efforts!
gimMe Snacks produces organic seaweed snacks that are fun for the entire
family and help keep our oceans and diet clean. gimMeâs seaweed farmers do
not use any chemicals or pesticides and sustainably cultivate and harvest
seaweed to maintain a healthy marine environment for our sea turtles and our
planet. For over five years, gimMe snacks has been a proud supporter of the
Sea Turtle Conservancy and is excited to continue the partnership through
this yearâs World Sea Turtle Day! And remember, they will match your
donations up to $5,000 from June 1 through June 16! Click here to donate
today!
