VA-Birders,
The Northern Virginia Bird Club & Audubon Society of Northern Virginia birded
the central portion of Cub Run Stream Valley Park in Fairfax County today. We
tallied 34 species and our group of 11 were treated to easy trail conditions
and cool, sunny weather. Highlights included: an aerial display as a group of
American Crows challenged a much-smaller Sharp-shinned hawk; good numbers of
our common wintering sparrows; and the always colorful Northern Flickers,
Northern Cardinals, and Cedar Waxwings. The complete list follows.
Phil Silas, Woodbridge, VA
P.S. Half of us then went a couple miles North on Pleasant Valley Road to
Sully Woodlands for great scope-views of the insect-eating Northern Shrike.
