This morning while taking a walk around Oak Grove Lake Park in
Chesapeake, I was quite surprised to find an immature Northern Gannet
actively feeding at the lake. It dive-bombed fish at least a half-dozen
times while I watched and was still at the lake when I left. A very
peculiar sighting for this location. The "Gold Book" reports only one
other occurrence of the species away from tidal waters, that being at a
park lake in Norfolk back in 1978.
