This afternoon (Friday) while birding the Beasley Tract of the Princess Ann
WMA in southern Virginia Beach with Calvin Brennan, I found a Glossy Ibis
feeding with a flock of 20 White Ibis. The number of White Ibis was down from
the 55 I observed in the same location on Tuesday. Today there were many more
ducks than there were on Tuesday including Blue-winged Teal, Gadwall, Northern
Shovelers, Mallard, American Black Duck. Shorebirds included Greater and
Lesser Yellowlegs, a Solitary Sandpiper which was probably the same one I found
on Tuesday, Killdeer, and a Wilson's Snipe. An Orange-crowned Warbler was
feeding in the nearby hedgerow.
At the Colechester Rd site of Back Bay NWR we heard at least five Virginia
Rails calling. Not much else was there.
