Hi all,
At 2:15pm today I spotted a subadult Golden Eagle circling just to the north of
my house (which is approx. 1 mile east of New Hope in Augusta County) which
circled lazily for approx. 7-9 minutes before making a bee-line to the
southeast and flying out of sight. I have a few bad but ID-worthy photos that
I can send to anyone interested. Other good yard birds for me today included 3
Killdeer, 2 Am. Pipits (6 yesterday), 1 Yellow-rumped Warbler (has been here at
my house for a while), 1 E. Towhee (yesterday also), 1 Field Sparrow, 2
Savannah, 24 RWBlackbird, 2 Rusty Blackbirds.
Highlights during a trip around this northern part of the count with Vic
Laubach this afternoon included: 2 Wood Ducks (pair at wetland on Hatchery Rd),
1 RSHawk (Hatchery Rd), 235 Ho. Lark (Strickley Rd & Hatchery Rd), 3 Am. Pipit
(Craig Shop Rd), 8 Savannah Sparrow (various locations), 2 Fox Sparrows (Craig
Shop Rd & Broad Run Rd), 60 RWBlackbirds, 15+ E. Meadowlarks, 50 C. Grackles.
Good Birding,
Gabriel Mapel
