We had some good finds during this morning's Audubon Society of Northern
Virginia (ASNV) walk at Algonkian Park (Loudoun County, on the Potomac River).
Even though it was cloudy and on the cold side, the rain held off. After our
visit, we went to Riverbend Park, Fairfax County (on the Potomac).

Mute Swan--R
Wood Duck--R
Mallard--R
Geen-winged Teal--A
Ring-necked Duck--R There were several hundred from the visitor center
observation platform upriver as far as the trail to the Nature Center.
Bufflehead--A/R There were at least 150 along the Potomac.
COMMON GOLDENEYE--A The highlight of the morning was finding this female
Common Goldeneye on the Potomac just off the swimming pool parking lot at
Algonkian Park.
Common Merganser--A/R
Red-necked Grebe--A/R
Double-crested Cormorant--R, a flyby
Great Blue Heron--A/R
Turkey Vulture--R
Bald Eagle--R
Red-shouldered Hawk--enroute to A
Red-tailed Hawk--A
Ring-billed Gull--A/R all along the river on the water.
Red-bellied Woodpecker--R
Downy Woodpecker--R
Northern Flicker--R (H)
American Crow--A/R
Tree Swallow--A/R swooping over the Potomac
