Birders,
I am hoping that my husband and I saw a GOSHAWK a few minutes ago. We were
traveling south onto General Booth Blvd from Oceana Blvd in heavy traffic
when we looked up and saw a slow moving heavy bodied hawk ambling towards
pine trees near Redwing Park. Due to the traffic and speed we were going the
best description I can give is size same as Red-tail, big body, overall
light appearance (seen in sunlight) with no visible markings on wings or
belly and the jiz of the bird was that it was a laboring flight and clumsy
landing in the pine tree. Now here is where I throw a kink into things. My
husband (driving the car) saw white near the rump on the BACK side when it
landed...not me (who was busy on the cell phone dog-gone it!). The first
thing I did was to check the list serv to see if any had been posted at
Kiptopeke yesterday...nope. Then I searched for a video of the Gos in
flight...no luck. If anyone can send me a link (offline) to a Goshawk in
flight I would appreciate it. If anyone else sees a Gos in the area...for
heavens sake post it! :-)
