We will be searching the skies for migrating raptors, mainly Broad-winged
Hawks, from the Twin Pinnacles overlook above the Visitor's Center at Grayson
Highlands State Park from 10 AM - 3 PM this Sunday, September 15 and the
following Saturday, September 21st during the same hours. If you haven't
previously visited GHSP, this is a great excuse to make that first trip and see
some good birds, unique natural communities, and picturesque landscape. For
hanging out at the hawkwatch, I would advise folks to bring a wide-brimmed hat,
and sunscreen. Interested birders might want to consider birding the lower
elevations of the park in the morning in search of migrant songbirds prior to
hawkwatch time.
