The Shenandoah University Cool Springs Campus on Parker lane aka Cool Springs
Preserve, previously Virginia National Golf Course, is across the Shenandoah
River from a very active Great Blue Heron rookery where I saw at least 19
active nests and a total of 27 Great Blues, many foraging for branches for
nests. The rookery is north of the main parking lot along the river about a 1/2
mile. I also saw 14 Wood Ducks, all paired up, at the 1st pond after passing
through the private property and entering the old golf course. Cool Springs is
off Route 7 immediately before crossing the Shenandoah river in Clarke county.
The Shenandoah University campus sign has been re-erected on Rt 7 now.
