Following is the count from Sunday's weekly bird walk at Great Falls
National Park, which identified approximately 29 species and included 6
participants. The diversity of birds was a pleasant surprise given the low
temperature and wind; ducks were, however, lacking in abundance. The river was
flowing swiftly after the recent rain, with much of last weekend's ice caught
up in the current. Nice views of pancake ice formations at the main falls
overlook.
The walk meets at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings, rain or shine, in front of the
snack bar/concession stand of the Great Falls Park visitors' center; it does
not take place, though, during electrical storms, heavy snows, or when the
trails are icy. All birders are welcome!
