Following is the count from Sunday's weekly bird walk at Great Falls National
Park, which identified approximately 18 species and included 4 participants.
You know it's unusually wet out when participants' lens cloths have become
saturated within the first 45 minutes of the walk; and when the birds all look
rain-colored against the dismal sky. Yes, there were warblers - feeding on
poison ivy berries in the canopy during the lighter bands of precip - but it
was only the "Maggies" that stood out.
This walk meets at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings, rain or shine, in front of the
snack bar/concession stand of the Great Falls National Park Visitors' center;
it does not take place, though, during electrical storms, heavy snows, or when
the trails are icy. All those with an interest in the natural world - beginning
