I found an immature or female Connecticut warbler about 8:30 this morning
(Sat.) at Great Falls, N.P, Va. The bird was with a lot of other warblers on
the little "island" between the upper water intake for the old Patowmack
Canal and the Potomac river. I walked across the intake on some rocks and to
the side of the river. When I turned around to see the trees, bushes, and
weeds in the full sun at my back, it was all full of warblers.
I had several B.T. Greens, several Magnolias, a Chestnut sided or two, a
bird that was either a fall Hooded or a fall Wilson's, a Yellow throat,
several Redstarts, and the Connecticut, foraging in a bush about 20-feet
away. The bird had a very prominent white eye ring. There were a number of
other warblers that I didn't see well enough to I.D. There were quite a few
birds for sure.
I later moved on to Monticello Park in Alexandria where the trees were,
again, full of warblers.
A big flight and a big fallout last night.
