Our group of eight birders tallied 49 species, a nice summer count for the
park. Highlights included good views of Y-B cuckoos,
baltimore oriole family and phoebes. The yellow-throated vireo was seen
feeding a juvenile cowbird. One adult and one juvenile
eagle returned to the nest this week. We were delighted to see four common
mergansers on the river. A pair of kingbirds seemed
to be defending their territory as they flew from shore to mid river island
repeatedly. While we heard two peewees, they were
quite quiet compared to last week.
