Our group of six tallied 30 species on this beautiful day. Views of the raging
Potomac were
spectacular this morning. Just the tops of a few rocks were visible at the
falls. Needless to
say we saw very ducks. Several geese whizzed past in the water. A few coots
and a pair of
mallards were in an inlet off the river. One coot was quite amusing as it
balanced on a bobbing
log. Bluebirds were checking out nesting cavities. We saw both adult eagles.
All are welcome to join this Sunday morning walk which mets at 8:00 am in the
visitors center
courtyard. -- Marshall Rawson, McLean VA
