The following count is from Sunday's weekly bird walk sponsored by National
Park Service Great Falls Park. Our 5 participants did an excellent job
identifying 36 species. We managed to see some very large birds - eagles
nesting on Conn Island and a very small one (winter wren). Cormorants were
collecting nest materials and Great Blue herons were staking out valuable tree
space nearby the eagles. Our only regret was failure to identify any green
birds for St. Patrick's Day.
This walk meets at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings, rain or shine, in the parking
lot next to the Visitors Center. The walk does not take place during electrical
storms, heavy snows, or when the trails are icy. All those with an interest in
the natural world, beginning and experience birders, or those who just want in
a nice walk in a beautiful and historical setting are welcome to join us.
