With generous directions from Sherry Boylan (not sure if she is on the list
serve or not) I headed cross-state to Newport News today hoping for a photo op
with a GHO. I arrived at 1:45pm (not exactly prime owl time) and parked in the
Disc Golf parking area (first right after coming in the main entrance from
Jefferson Ave.). I walked away from that parking area and into the 'Peace
Garden' area (toward Jefferson Ave. check out the map...

5 minutes I was looking up at a beautiful Great Horned Owl. I took a few photos
before he flew silently off and disappeared into the woods on the other side of
the entrance road.
