VA Birders,
Jane Grawe and I found the GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE this afternoon at
the retention pond in Loudoun Co. As reported previously by Sue Heath, the
pond is on Middlesex Drive, off Pleasant Valley Road, just south of Rt. 50.
The
goose was resting on the mudflat in the middle of the pond, along with some
CANADA GEESE. With its brown head, some white around the bill visible even
with its head tucked in, the horizontal white stripe on its side, some black
barring showing on its breast, and its smaller size, the White-fronted Goose
could
be seen well from Middlesex Drive. Thanks, Sue, for your good directions
which led us to the pond.
Good birding,
Val Kitchens
