I got to Greenspring Gardens near Annandale in hopes of seeing the Selaphorus
Hummer around 1:30 p.m. today. 2 others there had seen the bird in the morning
for long periods, but they said it flew off around 12:45 and nobody reported
seeing it between then and when I left around 3:30. One other birder and I got
very good looks at a very late Northern Parula in the bushes near the
hummingbird feeder. I saw it again when I was sitting in my car ready to leave.
A staff member I met in the parking lot said she had seen the Parula yesterday
but nobody believed her, so she was glad it was espied by others. I do plan to
try once again in the morning for the hummer.
