Clear becoming partly cloudy, high of 86 degrees, light variable breeze.
Raptor Observations:
Flight started picking up just before noon hawk time, and increasing clouds
over the next few hours helped contribute to three hours of steady action;
largest group of Broadwings was just over 60. Five eagles and two
Peregrines were noteworthy.

Site Description:
Candler Mountain is located on the southeast edge of Lynchburg, VA, in
Virginia's Inner Piedmont. It is 45 miles SSE of Rockfish Gap and 32 miles
E of Harvey's Knob. The primary site is a bare knob just above and behind
the Liberty Mountain Snowflex Center. The ridge is part of a minor ridge
that parallels the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is 21 miles to the NW. The
bare knob offers a 360 degree view from an elevation of 1336 feet. The
Candler Mountain hawk count is in its fourteenth year, and is sponsored by
the Liberty University Department of Biology and the Lynchburg Bird Club.
The count is currently conducted only from early September to the end of
the month due to a shortage of counters.
Directions to site:
From 501 S through Lynchburg take the Candler's Mountain Road/LibertyUniversity exit. After two traffic lights take the ramp to the right,
