Visitors:
Very few travelers on the parkway today.
Weather:
Beautiful early winter day, light breeze out of the north shifting to the
west around the noon hour. Sunny with high cirrus clouds covering most of
the sky. Visibility was good on both sides of the ridge. Temps 39 - 40F.
Raptor Observations:
No migrating raptors observed. One sharp-shinned circled high over the knob
then dropped into the trees. Only one TV passed the overlook.
Non-raptor Observations:
All of the regulars at the feeders, titmice, chickadees, nuthatches,juncos,
a downy and a Carolina Wren. A Pileated Woodpecker and an American Crow
passed the lookout, as well as a pair of Ravens who made several low passes
over the parking lot, probably looking for handouts. Also a flock of 17
Cedar Waxwings stopped for a brief visit.
Predictions:
Probably few if any hawks tomorrow. Forecast is for SSE winds 10-15 mph
with a 50% chance of rain later in the day. Monday looks better with WNW
winds at 20-30 mph.
