Visitors:
A few travelers on the Parkway. One couple from Michigan stopped to chat
for a few minutes.
Weather:
100% cloud cover most of count period. Moderate breeze out of the east at
ridge level, with upper level winds out of the south. Temp. hovered around
60F. Visibility of surrounding mountains and valleys was good.
Raptor Observations:
Much slower than I had anticipated, with only 12 raptors counted. One local
Redtail observed. One Sharpshin observed flying north.
Non-raptor Observations:
Chimney Swifts were on the move - several seen throughout the count period.
Several Ravens observed - all flying south along the ridge. One small group
of Goldfinches headed south.
Only one southbound Monarch butterfly observed.
Predictions:
Sharp-shinned Hawk numbers should increase.
