Visitors:
Counters today included Carl Christensen, Dillard Childress, and Baron
Gibson.
Visiting were Jim Bower from Lynchburg and Joe Robinson from the Poplar
Forest area. Joe is a Canadian who now lives in the Lynchburg area and
brought with him three Canadian visitors. I gave them brouchures about our
hawkwatch and the other hawkwatch sites on the parkway. They stayed quite
a while and we enjoyed having them.
Cars and motorcycles into the knob today from Colorado, Connecticut,
Florida, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York,
North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, Washington and Quebec, Canada. The car from
Nebraska was a rental car with a gentleman from Essex, England. We had a
lively discussion and he left with all the above mentioned brouchures.
The Appalachian Trail was quite active today also with a total of 14
hikers throughout the day all traveling from N to S on the trail.
Weather:
Near perfect day with temps ranging from 10-18.2C, winds out of the NNW
from B 1-3, and great visibility all day long. Only drawback to such a
perfect day - not one single cloud in the sky all day long which resulted
in some birds up very high.
Raptor Observations:
Unbelievable day with 82 raptors recorded. Yea, Baron and Carl my head math
wasn't as good as I thought so 82 is the correct final count.

Non-raptor Observations:
Lots of warblers, goldfinches and Blue Jays throughout the day.

Predictions:
A day very similar to today, temps in the mid to upper 70' F. However the
winds are forecast to come from the NNE & NE so the east side could be the
one to watch tomorrow. Almost all our birds today were on the west side.
You may even have a few clouds to help out.
