Official Counter: David Kirk
Observers: Baron Gibson, Mike Crowder
Visitors:
Katherine Walker from Roanoke was a keen observer. A first close look at
the all electric Tesla automobile ... wow!... now there is a car.
A special thanks to Stafford Query for his help today. Sure would make a
good official counter.
Weather:
Haze all day, visibility at 2 with cloud cover at 10% to 60%. Winds steady
from NW 1-2 Beaufort early then diminishing late. Humidity from high of 95%
at beginning of watch to low of 61% mid-afternoon. No precipitation for all
of watch but heavy thunderstorm moving through area as I left the knob.
Barometric pressure at 30.15 > to 30.1
Raptor Observations:
Adult BE and Sub-adult III BE at 11:20. Most birds observed overhead and
East of the knob.
Non-raptor Observations:
A good show of Raven. Doe and her two fawns crossed the Parkway from Powell
Valley to west valley. First sighting of deer at the overlook in some time.
5 through AT hikers near end of watch who appreciated a gift of water and
sterling conversation from observers.
Predictions:
Much like today;hazy lazy days with possibility of thunderstorms. Cold
front approaching on Friday with potentially better numbers for Saturday
and Sunday. The big Broad-winged push can't be far away.
