Official Counter: Bill Grant
Observers: Baron Gibson, David Kirk
Visitors:
Vehicles from half our 50 states came through today.
Alabama, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Illinois,
Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi,
Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South
carolina, Texas, Tennessee, Vermont, Wisconsin and of course Virginia
Weather:
Winds out of the NW from 18mph at start to 5.7 mph at end. Gorgeous day
with the best visibility of the year, a good 50 km and beyond with
basically a cloudless sky. Temps from 33F at the start to 48F at the end.
Should have been a very productive day, - However................
Raptor Observations:
Very slow day for the 7 hour observation period. The first bird of the day
was a beautiful Golden Eagle out in the valley right at the 11 o'clock
hour. Baron scoped the bird while I observed with 10 power binocs which
still allowed the notable field marks to clearly be seen.
Non-raptor Observations:
A nice flock of around 20 pine siskins landed in the trees at the upper end
of the knob. The usual TV's, BV's and ravens with the ravens and TV' s
coming in especially low right over our heads.
Predictions:
With the clear skies and NW winds forecast once again it should be a very
productive day - but then today should have been also.
