Did we pay the rent?
Weather:
Howling winds blowing spider webs over the mountain, newts' eyes burning in
the woods, wolves chasing cougars through the hawkwatch. Unusually warm,
especially underfoot. Screams from passing cars which disappeared over the
side were disconcerting, but carried nicely through the clear air.
Cackling from a raven sounded strangely like soundtrack from Wizard of Oz.
Raptor Observations:
Mr. Harvey appeared walking up the Appalachian Trail. Wordlessly, he
opened his longcoat and released a Harrier whose face was a disc-shaped
pumpkin! (I wanted to ask him about his Knob, but I feared I might offend
him.) He continued up the trail. That meant something.....
Non-raptor Observations:
No one on the Blue Ridge Parkway - no one at all. No hikers on the trail
(except see above). No motorcycles (it was worth the fear!) Hardly any
hawks. Until the first one, I was wondering if the the end was at
hand.......
