Weather:
Highly variable wind throughout the day 1-5km/h with few gusts up to 8-10
km/h.;
Temp: 25c>28c by 10 a.m. EST then dropping rest of the day;
Bar.Pressure: 1021<1019;
Cloud Cover: Clear increasing to mostly cloudy (51-75%) by 10 a.m. EST,
dropping back to partly cloudy, up to overcast and then clearing with no
clouds by 4 p.m. EST.
Visibility: Bad, bad, bad all day with very thick grayish haze to the
east and west.
Raptor Observations:
With variable winds, hard to determine where the birds would show up.
First part of the day was very slow, averaging 2 birds an hour. Most were
very high and inbetween lulls hard to say if they were too high up to be
detected are they weren't flying. We came SOoooooo close to hitting the
triple digit mark for first time this season and missed it by 5. By 2
p.m. we were seeing a few more BW, mostly single birds coming through.
Shortly after 4 p.m. EST we had a steady stream of 35 BW and most stopped
to kettle south of the hotel. More please!
Peak flights of BW today (EST): 1-2pm:-7; 2-3pm:10; 3-4pm:10; 4-5pm:44
Of the five American Kestrel today, most came in low that included 4 males
and 1 female.
Non-raptor Observations:
Several small waves of Chimney Swift
American Tree Swallow
Hummingbird - 16 including one very fiesty individual chasing a Rock
Pigeon and then turning back to join up with another hummer heading
south.
Common Nighthawk - group of 8 at 5:13pm (EST) and another small group of 4
Predictions:
more sunshine. Let's hope the haze is pushed out.
