Firs of all, WELCOME BACK Brenda Tekin! It's good to have you back on the
watch! Our second annual OPEN HOUSE was a great success with nearly 130
visitors! The hot dogs and snacks were terrific! Many, many new faces
showed up to learn about raptor migration and were able to read lots of
information, get close looks at mounted and preserved raptor specimens and
view many migrating raptors.

Weather:
Partly to mostly cloudy through noon, becoming all blue skies afterward.
Strong W winds all day, calming to mild wind after 3pm. Chilly, 8.6-20.1C.
Raptor Observations:
The morning and late afternoon were really hopping with a several hour lull
in between. Most birds were flying high and streaming fast to the SW. Ten
Bald Eagles: 5th-YR (7:28am), adult (8:44am), two immatures (10:32am),
adult pair (10:44am), adult (1:02pm), adult pair (1:08pm), immature
(1:59pm). An 11th BE (immature) circled late in the day not far away but
proceeded north. (not counted). One adult BE popped up to our right very
close, flew across in front of us up close giving awesome looks and
disappeared over the left rollover (only to reappear later on).
Hourly BW count: 4 (7-8am), 18 (8-9am), 11 (9-10am), 52 (10-11am), 59
(11am-noon), 9 (noon-2pm), 80 (2-3pm), 22 (3-4pm), 56 (4-5pm). First bird
was 7:28am BE and last bird was 4:45pm BW.
Where are all the Osprey??
Non-raptor Observations:
35 DC Cormorants (one flock with 32). 26 Chimney Swifts. 6 Hummingbirds. 4
Red-headed Woodpecker. 1 Raven. 4 Tree Swallows. 3 Magnolia Warblers. 1
Yellow Warbler. 1 Black-throated Blue Warblers. 3 Magnolia Warblers. 47
Cedar Waxwing.
