Visitors:
Eve Gaige from Palmyra, VA (first time seeing a BE!) ... she's hooked!
Weather:
Opening day of the 2008 hawk watch was gorgeous! The morning started out at
59*F with a high of 75*F. There was low fog until 9am. Blue skies with only
a few clouds. Light, breezy winds from the NW.
Raptor Observations:
There were many turkey and black vultures all day long, several local
Red-Tailed Hawks, and one Coopers Hawk which didn't seem to be migrating.
The highlight was an adult Bald Eagle at 1:31pm flying high and steady! I
think that's a good sign for the season!
Non-raptor Observations:
Lots of Barn Swallows and some Chimney Swifts. One Great Blue Heron flew
high overhead heading Northwest. Seven Monarch butterflies.
Predictions:
Beautiful weather!
