Weather:
The front that had produced fog and clouds for most of the week finally
began to move out of the region and by mid-day bright skies, haze and
warming temps prevailed. At lower elevations it was extemely oppressive
with heat index around 110.
Wind was N to NW during the afternoon - 12-19km/h dropping to 6-11km/h and
then back to 12-13.
Temp: 28c > 32c;
Humidity: 81% dropping to 66% with approaching strong storm cell.
Bar.Pressure: 1015<1014;
Cloud Cover: zero increasing to mostly cloudy by 3 p.m. EST.
Reduced visibility due to haze.
Dark large mushroom-shaped cloud moved over Waynesboro to the N (approx'ly
2.1 km/h) at 3 p.m. and the National Weather Service issued storm warnings
for the region. In some areas of Waynesboro the large storm cell produced
heavy rains upwards of 1.5" within a very short period of time.
Raptor Observations:
Vic Laubach was on hand for the afternoon and he reports "VERY hazy!
Barely can see Bear (Den) Mtn. towers. Blue sky straight up but hazy down
below. Wave of broadwings came through in 1-2 p.m. hr--all birds were to
the east and fairly low. They'd just "appear" out of the haze above the
right rollover and lazily glide out ...."
Non-raptor Observations:
Predictions:
The 3 H's: heat, haze and humidity
