Cloud Cover: partly sunny to mostly sunny.
Light cirrus clouds and lots of contrails whisping across the sky but
birds were too few and far between.
Observations:
An unexpected surprise for the five observers late afternoon approximately
4:50 EST when a wave of 64 BW passed low overhead following ridge
soutward.
BW hourly count today:
11-12 noon EST: 8; 12-1pm: 4; no more until 3-4pm: 8; 4-5pm:64
Black Bear observed on north ridge near the teepee close to parkway.
Hikers later reported seeing a bear further up the trail
Common Nighthawk: single bird flying west through the gap at 4:35pm EST.

The Rockfish Gap Hawk Watch is held on the grounds of the Inn at Afton,
located on the southern side of Rockfish Gap in the Blue Ridge Mountains,
just above where I-64 (exit 99) intersects with the southern end of the
Skyline Drive and the northern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway, just east of
Waynesboro, VA and approximately 22 miles west of Charlottesville, VA.
