Weather:
The day was warm but the sun never came out. It was drizzling at 9:30am,
foggy until 11am, and then overcast all day. Visibility went from 1 km to
only 10 km by 11am. Calm to very light, variable breezes throughout the
day. Temp ranged from 24.0-27.5*C. Humidity fell throughout day from 66% to
36%. By 5pm the clouds were just starting to open up to reveal some blue
sky.
Raptor Observations:
Two more Bald Eagles observed (adults at 11:37am and 12:16pm). Our first
two Norther Harriers observed today, both adult females, in the afternoon.
A big day for Ospreys with 11 observed (at least 1 seen each hour of the
day)! Although total number of raptors was low, seven different species
were observed.
Non-raptor Observations:
The day opened with a greeting by a Pileated Woodpecker at 9:30am. Eight
Nighthawks and five Double Crested Cormorants observed in the morning. 43
Cedar Waxwings, 12 Hummingbirds, 3 Ravens and 4 Monarch Butterflies also
observed.

Directions to site:
The Rockfish Gap Hawk Watch is held on the grounds of the Inn at Afton,
located on the southern side of Rockfish Gap in the Blue Ridge Mountains,
just above where I-64 (exit 99) intersects with the southern end of the
Skyline Drive and the northern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway, just east of
Waynesboro, VA and approximately 22 miles west of Charlottesville, VA.
