Official Counter: Wes Hetrick
Observers: Joe Kelly
Visitors:
several day-hikers on the AT
Weather:
Windy, beautiful sky, big fast-moving clouds, in the mid-70s
Raptor Observations:
Birds overhead throughout the day: vultures of course but just when we
needed a boost here comes a single broad wing, a single bald eagle, or
northern harrier, ... even the red tails put on a show.
Non-raptor Observations:
lots of swallows, swifts, groups of waxwings, goldfinches, maybe a dozen
times we saw red-headed woodpeckers shooting off in one direction or
another. And behind us a carolina wren and a mockingbird were competing
for attention ... a real debate about something was going on, and on, and
on.
Predictions:
temps dropping into the 50s overnight with highs tomorrow in low 70s. most
significant, wind predicted out of NNE. the switch in direction could
provide a new look at migrants.
