Like many, we haven't had much luck looking for warblers this weekend. We
have seen Harriers at Occoquan NWR and out on Harrison Rd in Fauquier
County. Earlier in the week we were in southeast VA at the Back Bay NWR.
Sorry for the late post, but it has taken a little while to pull our notes
together.
Back Bay NWR and vicinity in Sandbridge VA was great for birding early in
the week. On the bay side, the highlights were American Bitterns, Sora,
King Rail, Merlin, Kingfishers, Marsh Wrens, Palm Warblers, Common
Yellow-throat, Black & White, Redstart, Black-throated Green warblers, a
flyover White Ibis, a flyover Whimbrel, and Wood Ducks. On the beach, the
highlights were Black-bellied Plovers, Semipalmated Plovers, Greater
Yellowlegs, Willet, Dunlin, Least Sandpiper, Semipalmated Sandpiper, and
flyby flock of Oystercatchers. We also saw a Lesser Black-backed Gull
hanging out with Herring, Great Black-backed, Ring-billed, and Laughing
Gulls on the beach.
