First time's the charm...got to see the Harris's Sparrow at Julie Metz
wetlands (Neabsco Rd, off Rt. 1 between Woodbridge and Dumfries) - the bird was
in
the same area that Paula Sullivan described in her post...from the parking lot,
proceed west to Pod 2 and the Julie Metz memorial marker...follow the trail
west from the marker, to the next bench on the south side of the trail. The HS
was in a bush on the north side of the trail, opposite the bluebird house
visible from that bench. I was able to see the black face without bins...lucky
for
me...had about a 5 second look thru my bins before the bird dove for cover,
not to be seen again....other sparrows there to entertain us included Field
(6-10) Am. Tree (8-12), Swamp, Song, WThroat..a few Bluebirds were present, a
Winter Wren, YB Sapsucker made for a nice morning...Rich Rieger
