Today Andy Rabin and I set out to find the Harris's sparrow at Julie Metz. I
have tried 4 times and have come up empty, so I needed someone to help me
break the curse. We found the elusive sparrow perched near the blind at the
end
of the boardwalk and got a decent look. Later, while chasing a probable
clay-colored seen by Andy near the bluebird box on the side trail near the
monument, we were treated to another appearance by the Harris's. He was near
the
trail about 2 yards from me and stayed for 10 seconds or so. Outstanding! We
then went on to the Prince William Landfill and met up with Laura Catterton.
There was no sign of the California gull, but we saw several Lesser black backs
and a 1st winter iceland gull. This really capped off a week when I also saw
the black throated gray warbler at Blandy on Tuesday!
