Visitors:
A nice couple from upstate New York stopped and chatted for a good while.
When they told us they were camping near Elon Dan recommended they go to
Woodruff's Cafe & Pie Shop. Randy brought his good friend Jewel by for a
visit and we enjoyed their company for a couple of hours.
Weather:
Mostly sunny day with very unseasonable temps reaching the mid 70s. Steady
winds from the west ranging from 3 to 10 mph. Visibility started at 4 with
some haze over the far ridges of the western valley but cleared within the
first couple of hours to a solid 5 for the rest of the day. Cloud cover
was only about 15% at the start of watch but increased steadily through the
day to about 90%.
Raptor Observations:
First bird was a Cooper's hawk in the 11:00 hour and seven of our total
count were seen in the noon hour. Although it took a while the usual TV/BV
groups made their appearance.
Non-raptor Observations:
A group of Ravens numbering as high as 15 entertained us for a while and
four cormorants came directly overhead slowly spiraling and gaining
altitude as they moved across from the western to eastern valley. Few lady
bugs, no stink bugs but we did have some yellow jackets and honey bees
hanging around most of the day and particularly when Dan pulled out a bag
of very ripe persimmons.
Predictions:
Looks like a rainy day in store for Saturday so, all of Saturday's regulars
should go up and keep Randy company on Sunday. He's beginning to contract
a severe case of Maytag repairman syndrome!
