Observation start time: 08:00:00
Observation end   time: 16:30:00
Total observation time: 8.5 hours

Official Counter:        Mitch Mitchell

Observers:        Darryl Martin, Dave Brunstetter, David Kirk, Mike Crowder

Visitors:
Had what I'd guess was our very first visitor from Transylvania (the
country, not the university) via way of Michigan. He was dressed in black
but no unusually long or sharp canine teeth as far as I could tell. He was
riding a very vintage looking Harley powered motorcycle that he built
himself.  He stayed quite a while and talked motorcycles with Darryl.

Weather:
Very nice day with temps starting in the high 60s and reaching the high
70s.  Winds were primarily from the north and northwest and between 3-5
mph.  Clouds were high and at about 50% coverage most of the day.  The far
ridges used for spotting reference were visible but the ridges beyond those
were difficult to see until very late in the watch.

Raptor Observations:
First bird was a broadwing at 10:15 (DST) and we were treated to at least 8
different species and possibly a 9th as we had one unidentified accipiter.
Seven eagles on the day with immatures at 12:05, 1:57, 2:20 and 2:40 and
adults at 12:43, 1:50, 1:55.

Non-raptor Observations:
Saw several varieties of butterflies but I don't recall any monarchs today.
Thanks also to other observers Bob Epperson, Mark Johnson, Christine and
Andrew Necombe and Phillip Ferguson.

Predictions:
Not looking good for Saturday or Sunday with cloud cover expected to be
well below the elevation of the overlook.  Perhaps the bird counts will
ramp up once this weather front passes.
