Observation start time: 10:00:00
Observation end   time: 15:00:00
Total observation time: 5 hours

Official Counter:        Mitch Mitchell

Observers:        Dan DeHart, Don A., Randy Doss

Visitors:
Randy brought his good friend Jewel up for a few hours and they were
fortunate to be present when the golden passed over.  One gentleman from
the Danville area stopped and asked about the bird activity.

Weather:
Temperature started mid 30s and got as high as 46F.  Winds at the beginning
of watch were from the northwest at 5-7 mph, gradually shifted to southwest
and dropped to only 2-3 mph. Cloud cover was near 90% to start but
decreased to only about 20% by the end of the day.  Visibility was a solid
5 all day with even the furthest ridges very clear.

Raptor Observations:
Well, only one bird all day but well worth the trip up as it was a golden
eagle that came low, slow and directly over the top of the knob for plenty
of photo ops.  Very few vultures seen today.  We saw two red tail hawks but
determined that they were locals as they disappeared behind the knob to the
north.

Non-raptor Observations:
We saw one duck come over the knob very high and, unfortunately the photos
were not clear enough to identify it.  One pileated woodpecker and a few
blue jays observed. Very little traffic on the Parkway and most appeared to
be commuters.  Only a few cars/motorcycles even came through the overlook.

Predictions:
Warmer but looking to be much windier from the southwest. Could we make it
three goldens in three days.
