Visitors:
Travel on the parkway wasn't particularly heavy today and very few cars
came through the overlook or stopped to inquire about our activity.
Weather:
The overlook was totally socked in at the start but cleared around 9:30 and
turned out to be a very pleasant day. Temperature started at 58F and rose
to around 72 before falling back to the low 60s by the end. Winds were
from the north and northwest through most of the morning but shifted to
northeast and then from the south at the end. Wind speeds were in the 5
mph range and cloud cover was nearly 100% a great part of the day.
Raptor Observations:
The first bird of the day was a broadwing at 9:50. 6 eagles on the day at
12:10 (1 ABE, 1 IBE), 12:30 (2 IBE), 12:37 (IBE) and the final one, an
adult at 4:16. Nice variety with 12 species and a good surge of broadwings
late in the day.
Non-raptor Observations:
Lots of help today and my apologies in advance if I've omitted anyone. Don
Aldridge, Mike Crowder King and Joanne Irving, Sue and Tim Coleman,
Christine, Dana and Andrew Newcombe, Allen and Robin Austin, Baron Gibson,
Jerry Bond and his wife, Bob Epperson, Carl Christensen, Garland Kitts,
Gavin, Phillip Ferguson, Roger and Cynthia Baroody, Elizabeth the Brooklyn
transplant, Laura Neal, Kay Montgomery, Debbie, Gary and James Hammond,
Carole Massart, Debbie Ingram, John Loop and his wife.
Predictions:
Looks like cooler temps but sunnier skies. Even more birds, hopefully.
