Visitors:
Bob, Tina, Baron, And Mark M stayed late enough to enjoy the late flight.
Tremendous help from many regulars including Dillard, Phillip, Barry, Allen
and Robin, Mitch, Matt, Darryl, Don, the Newcombs, Tim and Sue, Dale, John,
Bill and Katie. There were many of our yearly watchers today and multiple
visitors stopping by. Carol, Carolyn and David were helpful in finding some
of our better kettles. Thanks to all.
Weather:
Beautiful day that started out cold at 42F, warmed nicely to 64F, then
cooled back down to 52F at sunset. Winds started from the W and later
switched to NE and E. Wind speed was 2-5 mph. There was an initial fog in
the western valley that had burned off by 11a. The sky was essentially
cloudless all day. Visibility was a 5.
Raptor Observations:
Large number of BW flew over both sides of the knob. This included several
moderate to large kettles. The day was highlighted by a late flight that
began after 6p when Tina and I were talking about a plane we saw. She
suggested we scan around the plane. Sure enough we found a lone BW.
Followed shortly by over 600 more! We also had 305 BW in the 11a hour and
584 in the 2p hour. There were ABE at 9:45a, 11:30a, 2 @ 11:35a, 12:10p,
and 2:03p. Immature bald eagles at 11:30a, 11:50a, 2 @ 1:20p, and 2 @
5:06p. We had 9 species of raptors. First bird was an early Kestrel at 7a.
Last bird was an Osprey a little after 6p.
Non-raptor Observations:
We have started to see groups of Blue Jays moving through. Among other
birds noted were, several black-throated blue warblers, red-breasted
nuthatch, scarlet tanager, common grackle, and red-headed woodpecker. .
Predictions:
Another nice day and good winds. Hopefully many, many birds.
